Menu Planning Monday: More Advocare 24 Day Challenge recipes!

menu plan monday

I’ve decided to start another Advocare 24 Day Challenge.  The challenge is going to be finding recipes that the rest of my family will eat (my husband is probably the hardest one to please when I do this) while sticking to the challenge as best I can.  I work full time and my kids have 3 hours of sports pretty much every night, so there’s no time to cook multiple meals, either!  My 24 Day Challenge starts TODAY!

Menu Planning Monday: Advocare 24 Day Challenge Recipes

menu plan monday

Last week was CRAZY.  My kids have activities EVERY week night now, and sometimes they both have activities in one night!  Needless to say, menu planning didn’t go as well as I had hoped.  Most nights, I run from work to pick kids up and then to activities and somewhere in there, we try to fit in dinner.  If I don’t get something in the crock pot before we leave, the chances are slim that we’re eating at home.  I’m also on my third week of the Advocare 24 Day Challenge, so I really need “healthy” recipes that I can make in the slow cooker or that are “quick fix”

Here are some of my 24 Day Challenge menus from my previous challenge:

easy-cheesy-pepperoni-breadSUNDAY:  Appetizers!  Yesterday, in honor of the Super Bowl, it was what I like to call an “anything goes” night!  I told my husband and kids that they could each pick out one of their favorite appetizers and I would make it.  Since they don’t get things like this very often, they were thrilled.  I actually had some sort of stomach bug, so even though I thought I would be tempted to cheat, it didn’t happen (which I guess is a good thing?)

Here’s what they picked:

MONDAY:  Slow Cooker Chili – This was on our menu last week, but it was one of the recipes I didn’t get around to making.  It’s quick and easy and we actually all love it!  Plus, we’re supposed to get another cold front, so it should be PERFECT!

chicken-licking-pork-chops

TUESDAY:  Slow Cooker Chicken lickin’ pork chops – Quick and easy to throw together as long as I remember to pull the pork chops out of the freezer to defrost the night before!

Chicken-ranch-tacos

WEDNESDAY:  Slow Cooker Chicken Ranch TacosInspired by a recipe that I used to love at Chili’s (sadly I don’t think it’s on the menu anymore)  These are so yummy and kid friendly!  Throw the ingredients in the crock pot and you’re set!

easy-slow-cooker-taco-soup

THURSDAY:  Slow Cooker taco soup – The best thing about this soup is the LEFTOVERS!  It makes a TON and so there’s always plenty for lunches and I think it’s even better the second (or third, fourth, and fifth) time around!

FRIDAY:  Sub Sandwiches – after a long week, sometimes it’s best to keep things simple.  Plus, I have found this is a family favorite!  I’ll have mine on Flat-Out bread, which, if ou haven’t discovered it yet, is kind of amazing (and no, they didn’t pay me to say that)

italian-green-bean-and-chicken-bake

SATURDAY:  Italian Green Beans and Chicken Bake – A trusty stand-by for me!  I love it because it’s so easy to throw together!  Since Saturdays are packed with cleaning, grocery shopping, a basketball game, and other errands, this is perfect!

Advocare 24 Day Challenge Recipes

menu plan monday

This week’s Menu Planning Monday post is taking on a different twist.  It’s a New Year and one of my goals is to really focus on losing weight.  I did my first Advocare 24 Day Challenge in September.  I lost 12 pounds and I felt great!  Unfortunately, then the holidays started to kick in and life got busy and I didn’t stick with things the way that I had intended to.  I’m planning to get back on track starting NOW!  This week’s menu will feature Advocare 24 Day Challenge Recipes!

One of the challenges I always face when I decide to focus on losing weight is finding recipes that my family will eat as well.  I’m strapped for time anyway, and I definitely don’t have time to cook two different meals.  Most of these recipes are tried and true and have “worked” for our family.

Here are some of my 24 Day Challenge menus from my previous challenge:

Advocare 24 Day Challenge Recipes

italian-green-bean-and-chicken-bake

MONDAY:  Italian Green Bean and Chicken Bake – My family absolutely loves this recipe and I do, too.  Plus, it’s super easy to throw together.  To lighten up the original recipe and make it “challenge friendly,” I use Kraft Fat Free Zesty Italian salad dressing (we make it like this all the time now, even when I’m not doing the challenge) and sweet potatoes.

TUESDAY:  Turkey meatballs – I have tried this recipe before a few times now and it’s easy to make and kid friendly, too (plus we actually like it!)  I will serve these with grilled asparagus and a side of whole wheat pasta.

WEDNESDAY:  Simple Turkey Chili – I make this in the slow cooker.  It’s easy to make and yummy, especially considering this cold weather we’re having right now!

THURSDAY:  Baked Orange Chicken – I love orange chicken and my family does, too.  I can’t wait to check out this “skinny” version.

sweet-potato-foil-pack-tacos

FRIDAY:  Sweet Potato Foil Packs – Long before I discovered Advocare, I came across this recipe on a friend’s site, and I was intrigued.  To be honest, my only experience with sweet potatoes had been at Thanksgiving and they weren’t exactly my favorite.  This recipe has become a favorite with my entire family and  I love that I can “sneak” spinach into meals and my kids actually enjoy it!  I will be skipping the cheese and sour cream, but the rest of my family can enjoy that part!

easy-slow-cooker-lemon-chicken

SATURDAY:  Easy Slow Cooker Lemon Chicken – The key word here is EASY!  This recipe is seriously yummy and so easy to make!  Only 3 ingredients and the slow cooker does the work!  We’ll have steamed zucchini and yellow squash with this one!

slow-cooker-chicken-noodle-soup

SUNDAY:  Slow Cooker Chicken Noodle soup – I have had a sinus infection for a week and I’ve totally been craving this.  I made some modifications including leaving out the cream soup and using whole wheat noodles.  I used Mrs. Dash (which is becoming one of my favorite things) for seasoning.

MONDAY: Spaghetti – I’m still not feeling well, and I’m craving “comfort foods” (not to mention things that will be easy to make)  I’ll be making spaghetti with ground turkey, Prego Light Smart, and whole wheat noodles.

TUESDAY:  Slow cooker shredded lime tacos These were supposed to be on my menu last week, but for some reason it didn’t work out.  I first discovered these on a friend’s blog.  They are easy to throw together and yummy, too!  I’ll make some guacamole to go along with them!

WEDNESDAY:  Sesame Chicken – I love Sesame Chicken, but haven’t had it in several weeks.  I’m excited to try out this new recipes.  Less than 300 calories!!

sweet-potato-foil-pack-tacos

THURSDAY: Sweet Potato Foil Pack Tacos – These are a FAVORITE with my family and they’re so easy to make!  We make ours with ground turkey!

chicken-tortilla-soup

SUNDAY:  Slow Cooker Chicken Tortilla soup – I got hit hard by my first sinus infection of the season and all I wanted was SOUP.  I really wanted chicken noodle soup, but I figured with all of the noodles that probably wasn’t the best bet.  When I figured out the calories per serving for this soup using My Fitness Pal, I was surprised to find out that it’s only 119 calories per serving!  I used low fat and low sodium chicken broth and cream of chicken.  I skipped the cheese that I’m used to adding, but did treat myself to one spoonful of sour cream (it was reduced fat and only 20 calories) and 3 tortilla chips!  It hit the spot!

MONDAY: Slow Cooker Balsamic Chicken and Spring Vegetables – This is a new recipe for me, but it sounds yummy.  I can’t wait to see how it turns out!  I’ll be serving it with a side of brown rice.

TUESDAY:  Chicken Spinach Parm – This is another new recipe.  It sounds yummy to me.  I’m not sure my husband or son will be crazy about it, but we will see.

WEDNESDAY:  Slow cooker shredded lime tacos – I first discovered these on a friend’s blog.  They are easy to throw together and yummy, too!

Cheesy-Baked-Ravioli

THURSDAY:  Baked Ravioli – This is totally NOT on my diet, but it’s something I can throw together before I leave and my husband can heat it up and feed it to the kids.  I’ll be at a blogging conference.

country-style-macaroni-and-cheese

FRIDAY:  Country Style Macaroni – My kids and husband will be able to enjoy all of their favorites while I’m at a conference this weekend!  I will also make this before I leave for the day and my husband can just throw it in the oven and feed the kids when they all get home.

SATURDAY:  Baked Orange Chicken – I love orange chicken and I’ve been missing it.  I found this baked version and can’t wait to check it out.
