If you’ve been a reader for awhile, then you know that my weight has been an ongoing struggle for me.  I became a lifetime Weight Watchers member in 2000, so that HAS worked for me in the past, but it’s just not working for me now.  I think part of the reason for that is because I haven’t had time to attend the meetings and get that group motivation.  Several of my co-workers began using Advocare last year.  My principal started around Thanksgiving and has now lost 100 pounds!  Several other co-workers have had great results, too!  Still, I put off trying it myself.  I kept thinking that I KNOW what I need to do to lose weight and that I’ve been able to do it before. There’s a time and a season for everything, though and what has worked for me in the past, for whatever reason or reasons, is not working for me now.  When a co-worker gave me the opportunity to take the Advocare 24 Day Challenge, I decided to take him up on it.

If you’ve ever struggled with weight issues, then you know a big part of weight loss is your MINDSET.  You have to be committed and ready to change.  I think I’m at that place now.  I spent the whole weekend planning out a menu (I’ve learned that being organized when it comes to food is a HUGE part of being successful with weight loss) and buying all the groceries!  You can see my menu for the week here–> Menu Planning Monday:  Starting my Advocare 24 Day Challenge

What is the Advocare 24 Day Challenge?

The Challenge consists of 2 phases.  The first 10 days are the “Cleanse Phase” and the focus is removing waste and preparing for optimal nutrient absorption.  The second phase is the Max Phase (days 11-24) where you focus on working toward your weight management goals!

The thing I love about this program is that it’s not a “diet”  It’s focused on helping you make a lifestyle change which includes exercise, managing daily water intake and eating healthy foods.  There are handy checklists to help you monitor your progress   The challenge is PERFECT for people who are trying to jump start weight loss (like me) or for people who have hit a weight loss plateau and want to break through it!

Weight Loss Wednesday: My Weight Loss Goals for the New Year!

weight-loss-wednesday

If you read my What to Expect in 2013 post, then you may have had a heads up Today was supposed to be “the day.”  The DAY that I once again commit to start on a Weight Loss Journey.  This is a journey I’ve started many times before and one that I have yet to be able to actually follow through on.  I could come up with a million excuses.  That’s the problem.  I put everything and everyone else before my weight loss goals and I always fail miserably, sometimes within days, sometimes within weeks.  Maybe you’ve been there and done that, too.  And if your weight has been up and down your entire life like mine has, then you also know that it doesn’t matter what anyone else says.  It doesn’t matter how many episodes of Biggest Loser you watch on TV.  Losing weight is a personal commitment and when you’re ready to commit to it, it works, and if you’re not ready to commit, it doesn’t work.

I’m REALLY hoping that this time around I’m ready to commit! I’m hoping that by posting here weekly, I’ll hold myself accountable and maybe you guys will hold me accountable, too!  I’m hoping if you’ve got weight to lose that maybe you’ll be inspired to join me on this journey and I’ve got some great prizes to give away to help inspire you and keep you going (and hopefully keep myself going, too!)

MY WEIGHT LOSS PLAN

Since I’ve struggled with weight issues for a LONG time now, I know what my roadblocks are.  One of them is organization.  I’m usually pretty good at healthy breakfasts.  I usually can even manage a healthy lunch.  The problem is that I get home from work and I’m STARVING.  My kids have this issue, too.  So we end up filling up on junk food for a “quick fix.”  To combat this, my plan is to MEAL PLAN and to have healthy snacks ready to go.  I plan to use Saturdays or Sundays to cut up fruits and veggies and to have them easily accessible.

Through the years, I’ve tried pretty much every diet out there.  Trying to lose weight is all about will power and even though I am sure I’d probably see more drastic results by doing a no carb diet, I also know that I don’t have the willpower to follow through with that right now.  I need to do something that I can stick with so that I can see results and stick with it.  I have done Weight Watchers in the past and that is the plan that has worked the best for me, so that’s what I plan on doing this time around.  I love that they have an app now and that it’s so easy to keep up with your eating.  It will even alert you and remind you to enter your meals for the day!  My goal over this next week is to track, track, track and to stick to my points limits!

I’d love to be able to say that I am going to exercise EVERY day, but going from almost nothing to every day is completely unrealistic and again, I don’t want to set myself up for failure.  My goal for this week is to exercise at least 3 days and in order to do that, it’s once again going to be a matter of planning and organization.

I also need to drink more water!  This is seriously a struggle for me and some days I get home from work and realize that I haven’t had any water to drink all day!  My plan is to buy a big water mug and fill it up in the mornings and drink from it at work all day.  I’m also going to attempt to give up Diet Coke, which is HUGE for me!

So that’s my plan for this week.  I’m taking it one step at a time and not giving up if I have a bad day.  I had hoped to start today, but it didn’t go as well as I had planned, so tomorrow is a new day!

Are you starting a weight loss journey this week?  What are YOUR plans to get the weight off?

Weightloss Wednesday: My weight loss goals for the new year and some bargains, too!

I started a a post similar to this last year, but didn’t “stick” with it. I’m hoping there are others out there who have had similar challenges: you think you’re motivated to lose weight, but then “life” starts to get in the way and all of the sudden your weight loss goals go on the back burner.

I’m hoping by posting weekly, I’ll have some accountability for myself, and I promise to try to share things that are “bargain related” in this weekly post, too.

This year, as I set my annual goal to lose weight, I decided to do something a little bit different.  I decided to involve my entire family in the process.  In the past, when I’ve tried to lose weight, I’ve tried to do it more on a personal level – cooking one thing for me and something separate for my family, which honestly never worked out very well because by the time I get home from work, I am too tired to cook for one some days let alone cook two separate meals.  I got The Biggest Loser Cookbook: Budget Friendly Meals Your Whole Family Will Love for Christmas and several of our meals this week (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) have come from this cookbook.  I let my kids look through the book (the pictures are great) and help to pick out the recipes.  Because they’ve been involved in the process, they are “invested” and excited.  I’ve seen positive changes in my kids already that are making this “worth it” to me – they have ASKED for more fruits and veggies and been willing to eat more fruits and veggies over this past week than they have probably eaten in the past month.  Instead of asking for fruit snacks or cookies or crackers as snacks, they are asking for fruits and veggies and I love it!

Here are my initial goals: (I’d like to set much higher goals, but I also want to be realistic and I don’t want to get discouraged early on)
*Commit to making healthier meals overall for my entire family
*Exercise a minimum of four times per week – that has not been happening this week because I’ve been really sick
*Lose 10 pounds by 2/14/10

Here’s my plan:

*Commit myself to Weight Watchers~ My weight has always been a struggle for me and Weight Watchers is the only program that has really “worked” for me. About 10 years ago, I became a lifetime member and I managed to keep the weight off….until I had my first baby. After two babies, I’m read to get back on track. My first goal is to just TRACK consistently so I actually know what I’m eating and by tracking, I also know that I’ll be less likely to “cheat.”  I have to say that I am loving the new Points Plus program now that the most of the fruits and vegetables are “free” because I have been choosing fruits or vegetables when I feel the need to snack, which is helping me stay on track.

(On a side note, if you’re wondering, I have a monthly pass so I can use the online tools, but I can also attend meetings. I love being able to use the online trackers and being able to put in my recipes and calculate the points values, but I also do best when I have the accountability of actually attending a meeting).

NOW, for the bargain:  Right now, Weight Watchers is waiving their registration fee!  To make things even better, you can also sign up for Weight Watchers through Swagbucks and get 280 Swagbucks!  To access this deal, log into your Swagbucks account (or sign up here if you don’t have one yet) and click on “Special offers” on the left hand side of the screen.  Then, click on the “Trial Pay” tab.  The Weight Watchers offer was on the first page for me.  If you’ve always wanted to check Weight Watchers out, this is a great time to do it!

Here’s “the fine print” on this offer:  Purchase a Weight Watchers Online subscription or Monthly Pass. Registering for the free trial does not qualify. Valid information required. Please note: If you cancel within the first month, TrialPay reserves the right to discontinue access to your free product.
(Thanks Jess for the heads up!)

*Drink more water – I never drink enough water! I plan on taking a huge water bottle with me to work and filling it up a couple of times each day. I know that is one of the keys to weight loss (for me at least).  Those Crystal Light packets that you can drop into the water bottles have definitely helped me with this!

*Create an exercise plan for each week – Exercise tends to be the thing that gets pushed aside when other things come up, but I’m an “emotional” eater and I know that when I exercise, it helps me deal with those other issues. I also know if I make a plan, I’m more likely to stick to it! Once I’m “better” and can start exercising, my plan is to use the “Couch Potato to 5K” plan and to alternate it with Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred.

My first Weight Watchers weigh-in will be this Saturday, so I’ll keep you posted on my progress!  If you’re on a weight loss journey, too, please feel free to link up and share your experiences, plans, favorite recipes, etc. below!

Welcome to Weight Loss Wednesday!

At the beginning of the year, I was participating in the Body After Baby challenge that was being sponsored by Mama Notes.  I loved the accountability of posting every week about my experiences and I also loved being able to support other bloggers who were in the same boat I’m in, reading about their experiences, and getting support from them.  Mama Notes hasn’t posted a Body After Baby challenge in awhile, and along the way my motivation is starting to lag and I don’t want it to.  I want to get back on track.

So, I’m going to start doing my own “Weight Loss Wednesday” post to share my experiences.  If you’re trying to lose weight, too, feel free to link up and share your experiences.  Please visit and support our fellow bloggers and we’ll support you, too!

This week, I’m going to post my long term and short term goals.  Feel free to link up below and share your experiences!

My long term goal:  Lose 10 pounds by April 15th (I’m hoping to lose more than that, but I want to set a “manageable” goal

My short term goals:
*30 minutes of exercise 5 days a week
*Start tracking EVERYTHING I eat
*Attend weekly Weight Watchers meetings

Weight Loss Wednesday: Hanging in there…

MamaNotes

I missed my Weight Loss Wednesday post last week. It had been a long day and I was too tired to best and to be honest, I wasn’t feeling all that motivated. Last week was a rough week. I didn’t work out once. I still tried to be somewhat conscientious about what I was eating, but I didn’t use my tracker at all. I didn’t even want to go to Weight Watchers on Saturday to weigh in because I was so sure that I hadn’t lost anything at all or maybe that I had even gained weight. But, I forced myself to go because I knew that I needed the accountability and because I knew that if I stopped going even for just one week it would be that much easier to make excuses and not go the next week. I’ve been down that road before. So, I went and I was shocked to find out I’d lost 1.5 pounds? I was grateful, too, though, because it gave me the motivation to get back on track.

So, my update this week is that I’m hanging in there. I’m hanging in there and I’ve been more motivated to work out this week and I’ve even been pretty good about tracking.

If you’ve got a goal to lose weight, I hope you’re hanging in there, too! And if you’ve blogged about it, feel free to link up and share below!
