Items to Stockpile this week: applesauce, apple juice, cereal, and refrigerated biscuits

If you’re new to stockpiling, I thought I’d give you a “heads up” on a few items that you can stockpile this week and still stay within your budget:

*Applesauce and apple juice: This week Target has a deal where you get a $5 gift card when you buy 5 Mott’s applesauce or apple juice products. These ranged in price from $1.69 (for the “natural” items) to $1.75 at my store. Hopefully you already have a Target gift card on hand from a previous deal!

If you do, here’s how it breaks down ~

Buy 5 Mott’s applesauce – $1.69/each

Use $5 Target gift card

Spend $3.45 OOP, get a $5 Target gift card – you get the applesauce for $.69/each!

Buy 5 Mott’s apple juice – $1.75/each

Use $5 Target gift card

Spend $3.75/each, get a $5 Target gift card – you get the juice for $.75/each!

*Cereal! Randalls has Kellogg’s cereal on sale (the ad runs through Tuesday in my area) for $1.49/each when you buy 5 selected varieties (varieties priced at $1.49 included Apple Jax, Fruit Loops, Raisin Bran, Frosted Flakes, Rice Krispies, and Crispix). There were also several varieties that are $1.99/each when you buy 5 (this included the flavored varieties of Frosted Mini Wheats and Raisin Bran Crunch). There were $1/2 Kellogg’s cereal “blinkie” coupons right in front of the cereal. There were also $2/2 coupons in the 8-30 RP insert and several $1/1 Rice Krispie coupons and one coupon for a free box of Rice Krispies that I had gotten from Vocalpoint.

I got 20 boxes of cereal for $7.01 this weekend. I bought a variety of Apple Jax, Fruit Loops, Raisin Bran, Frosted Flakes, Rice Krispies, and Crispix. I used several of the $2/2 coupons (thanks Martha!), my $1/1 Rice Krispie coupons, and the free box (and they took off the full $3.79 for the free box, which was the amount BEFORE any discounts!). That’s .35/box and we won’t have to buy cereal again for a LONG time.

Even if you don’t have the $2/2 or Vocalpoint coupons, you could still buy 10 boxes for $9.90 using the blinkie coupons found in the cereal section, which still ends up being less than $1 per box!

*Refrigerated biscuits – This week, Kroger has Pillsbury biscuits, crescents, or rolls – 3/$5 (through Tuesday in my area – check your ad for details)

My Plan (I have $46 in RR that I earned last week ~ I’m trying to “roll” or keep as many as possible for the Huggies diaper deal next week):

Transaction #1: (rolling my $8 Theraflu RR)

Use $1.50 Vaseline IP
Use $1/1 coupon for Discover card users
use $8 Theraflu RR

Transaction #2: (rolling my $7 Vaseline RR)
Buy 1 Gillette Fusion MVP – $8.99

Buy 1 Halloween pencil – $.12

use $4 Gillette coupon
Use .50 Purell coupon

Buy 1 Chapstick Fresh Effects – $2.99
Buy 1 Emergen-C Cold – $3.49
Buy 1 Halls – $1
Buy 1 Halloween pencil – $.12

Use $6 RR

Spend $.10 OOP, earn a $3 RR (Chapstick), $3.50 RR (Emergen-C), $1 RR (Halls) – I end up with $1.50 more than I started with!

*Rinse and repeat!

Some helpful tips:
*At Walgreens, you cannot do a promotion more than once in a transaction and earn Register Rewards. So, if you buy more than 1 Halls cough drops this week, you will not earn more than 1 RR. You will only get $1.

*You also cannot use the Register Rewards earned from a promotion on the same promotion and earn Register Rewards again. For example, if you buy Halls cough drops, get a $1 RR and use it to buy another Halls cough drops, another RR will not print.

*Typically, you cannot use the Register Rewards earned from a promotion with the same manufacturer and earn Register Rewards again. For example, you cannot buy a Vaseline lotion and use the RR from the promotion to buy another Vaseline lotion because your RR will not print.

Here is information on the manufacturers for this week’s RR (thanks HCW!):
Vaseline = Unilever
Emergen C = Alacer
Chapstick = Wyeth
Fusion Razor = P & G
Robitussin = Wyeth

*Register Rewards are considered to be “manufacturer’s coupons” and you can only use one manufacturer’s coupon per item. You will have to add “filler” items. The in ad coupons often have good, inexpensive filler items. (this week, my favorite fillers are the Halloween pencils and the Campbell’s soups)

*If you are buying items that would result in a “free” item or “overage” when combining a store coupon and a manufacturer’s coupon, give the manufacturer’s coupon FIRST, and the store coupons LAST to avoid beeping/issues at the register! Make sure that you are purchasing enough items in your total transaction to “cover” the overage. You will not get cash back and you will have to add items to cover the overage or they will not take the coupon.

*If your Register Reward doesn’t print for some reason and you have fulfilled all of the obligations for the “deal” (including not using RR from the same parent company to pay) DO NOT let them tell you it is because you used coupons! Chances are they didn’t print because the catalina machine is not working. You have two choices: you can return your items and try again or you can contact the catalina company by doing the following:
*The store will give you a form to fill out and mail in to catalina
*Call 1-888-8coupon, option 3
*Use the online form to contact them: Contact Catalina Marketing (when I have tried contacting them this way, my results have not been very good….your best bet is to call)

Thrifty Thursday: Movie night on a budget

In this economy, many people are looking for ways to entertain their family and stay within the budget. My kids LOVE “family movie night.” We have popcorn (and sometimes other snacks) spread out blankets and pillows on the floor and all hang out together. Sometimes my husband and I like to just hang out and watch a movie after the kids go to bed – we don’t have to pay for a babysitter and it’s more comfortable (and less noisy) than a movie theater. I have time paying for movies anymore, though, and I have become a HUGE fan of Redbox since there are so many free codes.

If you sign up for texts from them here, you will get a code for a free Redbox movie rental texted to you the first Monday of every month. The next text should be coming on Monday, October 5th!

If you haven’t checked out Redbox before, now is a great time to start because there are several free codes available:

9HB6MP22 (valid at any location)
SMR8DVD (valid at McDonalds locations)

Here are a few other codes that may work if you have not used them before:
BREAKROOM
DVDONME
REDBOX

For use at Walgreens only: DVDATWAG

You can use these codes once per card (you do have to swipe a credit or debit card to “rent” the movie).

To learn more about Redbox (or to find a location, see what’s available, or reserve a selection online), check out their blog here and their site here.

If you are new to using Redbox, Dealseeking Mom has a great tutorial here.
