Tip of the Day Tuesday: How to find the real deals and spot online scams

Have you ever gotten an e-mail promising you a $500 gift card to your favorite restaurant or clothing store just for completing a survey? You may have clicked on it figuring it was worth checking out only to find out that you were faced with page after page of “questions” and offers with no end in sight. You never did get your $500 gift card, but you sure did end up with a lot of extra junk mail in your inbox.

Finding the real deals can be tricky and once you’ve been scammed, it can be discouraging.

Check out this article for tips on avoiding online scams and finding the “real” deals.

The Coupon Clippers

CVS & Walgreens late night runs…one crazy night!

My first stop on Saturday night was Walgreens. I had $10 in RR (a $5 one from the holiday deal that was expiring that night and a $5 one from buying Gatorade that didn’t expire until 12/24). I rolled both RR into the Nabisco deal (and used two $1/2Nabisco printables along with 3 Turtles coupons). I paid $2.46 OOP and earned a $5 RR.

Then, I bought the Energizer charger. It was on sale for $7.99. I used a $1 manufacturer’s coupon and my $5 RR from the Nabisco deal (I also had to buy a .33 piece of candy so I could use both coupons). I paid $2.32 OOP, and I will get back $10 in rebates.

So, when all is said and done, I will make $5.22 buying all of this.

My next stop was CVS. It took me four trips to different stores to get everything. I would have liked to have found more Arm & Hammer, but they were out everywhere! My total OOP on card #1 was .98 and I earned $24.75 in ECBs above and beyond the ECBs I started out with. My total OOP on card #2 was .40 and I earned $30.50 in ECBs above and beyond what I started with. I will roll the extra into buying Fusion cartridges for my husband.

I will also send in rebates for the Zantac ($4.99), the Excedrin ($1.99) and the Arm & Hammer ($2.99), so this was a total moneymaker!
