Thrifty Thursday: Hot grocery deals this week

Since I started my $40 weekly grocery budget, I have been VERY conscientious about looking at the ads each week. The past couple of weeks have been a bit disappointing, but this week, is an exciting week. Here are a few of the highlights.

Lots of 10/$10 items including veggies (you don’t have to buy 10 items to get them for $1 each….they will ring up at $1 individually) – I love 10/$10 sales because I usually have some coupons that will match up giving me FREE stuff!

The following fresh fruits and veggies are 10/$10:
Ripe Jumbo Hass Avocados, Jumbo Mangos, Jumbo Texas Grapefruit, Organic Mini Peeled Carrots, Broccoli Crowns, and Seedless Cucumbers

These items are also 10/$10 with great coupon match-ups!

Join Sam’s Club, get a $25 gift card

Sam’s Club is running a promotion between January 15th and 21st for New Members. If you join as a New Member during these dates, you will get a free $25 gift card. The cost of a Sam’s Club membership is $40. To access the details click here.

I actually gave up my membership when I started heavily couponing about two years ago. I found that I could get most of the items that I was purchasing there for free or close to free matching coupons with sale prices. People often ask me if having a Sam’s Club membership is “worth it.” It depends on what you are using it for.

If you are mainly buying health and beauty items there, then I don’t think it’s worth it. Learn how to shop at Walgreens or CVS, and you can get those items for free or close to free and you will have a nice stockpile before you know it.

I can get most bulk food items (cereal, granola bars, canned goods, etc.) cheaper at the grocery store using coupons during stock up sales.

They do have great deals on electronics/CDs/DVDs, books, clothing, meat (I have my mom buy me a big package of ground beef every few months because I usually can’t get a better deal anywhere else), and produce (they have great produce at great prices).
