Some helpful tips:
*At Walgreens, you can use ONE manufacturer’s coupon and ONE store coupon per item

*At Walgreens, you cannot do a promotion more than once in a transaction and earn Register Rewards. (for example, if you buy 2 Ecotrin, you will only earn RR for one)

*You also typically cannot use the Register Rewards earned from a promotion on the same promotion and earn Register Rewards again. For example, if you buy the Ecotrin and use the RR from that to buy another one, your RR will not print.

*Register Rewards are considered to be “manufacturer’s coupons” and you can only use one manufacturer’s coupon per item. You will have to add “filler” items. The in ad coupons often have good, inexpensive filler items. (there are LOTS of great filler items this week – check out the weekly match-ups for ideas)

*If you are using more than one RR in a transaction, always give the RR with the highest value FIRST. Sometimes strange things happen with coupons and taxes and even if you think you have planned out your scenario very well, you will end up with more overage than you planned for.

*If you are buying items that would result in a “free” item or “overage” when combining a store coupon and a manufacturer’s coupon, give the manufacturer’s coupon FIRST, and the store coupons LAST to avoid beeping/issues at the register! Make sure that you are purchasing enough items in your total transaction to “cover” the overage. You will not get cash back and you will have to add items to cover the overage or they will not take the coupon.

*If your Register Reward doesn’t print for some reason and you have fulfilled all of the obligations for the “deal” (including not using RR from the same parent company to pay) DO NOT let them tell you it is because you used coupons! Chances are they didn’t print because the catalina machine is not working. You have two choices: you can return your items and try again or you can contact the catalina company by doing the following:
*The store will give you a form to fill out and mail in to catalina
*Call 1-888-8coupon, option 3
*Use the online form to contact them: Contact Catalina Marketing (when I have tried contacting them this way, my results have not been very good….your best bet is to call)

Thrifty Thursday: Earn freebies through summer reading programs!

Has your summer started yet?  Mine is just around the corner and I’m so excited!  I’ve always loved reading and thus far have been able to pass that love on to my children.  One of the things we love about summer is all of the great summer reading programs.

Here are a few summer reading programs you might want to take advantage of:

*Barnes & Noble ~ Earn a free book when you read 8 books!  You can download your Passport to Reading and view the list of free books that you can choose from here.

*Book It Summer Reading Challenge ~ Read five books this summer and enter to win a prize pack that includes the following items:  tote bag, water bottle, cloth fun disk, beach ball, sunglasses, beach towel, dive balls, Voyage of the Dawn Treader by CS Lewis, and a $20 Visa gift card.  Print the entry form and get more details here.

*Bookworm Wednesdays ~ Every Wednesday at participating Showcase Cinemas, Multiplex Cinemas, or Cinema de Lux box offices, kids can get free admission to a select children’s film when they persent a book report.  Get the details, download the forms, and check out the schedule here.

*Borders ~ Check out the Double Dog Dare summer reading program.  Kids 12 and under can get a free book from Borders or Waldenbooks when they read 10 books this summer.  Some of the free books include some of my favorites from my childhood such as Ramona the Brave and The Witch of Blackbird Pond.  You can download the form and get more details here.

*Your local library ~ Check to see what summer reading programs your local library offers.  My daughter just brought home a bookmark with the details for our library’s summer reading program.  For reading five books, kids can earn a bookmark, for reading 10 books, they get a pencil, for reading 15 books, they get a certificate, and for reading 20 books, they get a trophy! (she’s really excited about that)
