Attention Target Shoppers: Target coupon policy update!

A few weeks ago, I posted here and asked, “Is TLC’s Extreme Couponing Ruining it for legit couponers?” Since the season began airing in April, we’ve seen major changes in the coupon policies at Kroger, Publix, Rite Aid, and not Target.  Coincidence?  Somehow I don’t think so!

You can find the full updated Target coupon policy here.  The biggest change that I see is the policy for BOGO free coupons:

· BOGO coupons cannot be combined (i.e. you cannot use two BOGO coupons on two items and get both for free). Unless stated otherwise on the coupon, the use of one Buy One Get One Free coupon requires that two of the valid items are presented at checkout of which one item will be charged to the guest and the 2nd item will be discounted by its full retail price.
· A second cents-off coupon of the same type cannot be redeemed towards the purchase price of the first item.
o If a Target BOGO coupon is used, one additional manufacturer coupon maybe used on the first item.
o If a Manufacturer BOGO coupon is used, one additional Target coupon may be used on the first item.

My interpretation of this is that you will no longer be able to combine a buy one, get one free coupon with a buy one, get one free sale to get two items for free.  The second sentence is also major.  In the past you have been able to use a BOGO free coupon and a second “cents off” coupon together when purchasing two items.

Here’s another change I see:

Internet (Print-at-Home) Coupons:

· We gladly accept valid internet coupons that contain a clear and scannable bar code.
· We do not accept internet coupons for free items with no purchase requirements.

Target was one of the few stores that I knew of that would still accept printable coupons for “free” items.  So, in the event that a company releases a printable free coupon online, there is basically nowhere you can use it now.

What do you think of the new Target coupon policy?  Do you think Extreme Couponing is playing a role in all these policy changes?  If you think Extreme Couponing is “ruining it” for couponers, you can sign a petition here to try to get the show taken off the air!

    not happy and think they are going to get strict like they are in Canada

  2. i read the petition posted && the above, im not quite getting the BOGO. from MY personal experience, its you have to get 2 of the SAME items..use coupon, get ONE of those items free.

    what i don’t understand is this part:
    · A second cents-off coupon of the same type cannot be redeemed towards the purchase price of the first item.
    {{ are people trying to use another of the SAME coupons to get the second one free?}}

    o If a Target BOGO coupon is used, one additional manufacturer coupon maybe used on the first item.
    o If a Manufacturer BOGO coupon is used, one additional Target coupon may be used on the first item.
    {{im not understanding the 2 above}}

    • Sasha – in the past, if the store was having a BOGO promotion/sale and you had a manufacturer’s BOGO free coupon, you could get two items for free.

      To answer your question about BOGO coupons and “cents off” coupons, in the past you could do this: (using Gillette as an example)
      Buy 2 Gillette Body wash – $3.99/each

      -$2 Gillette body wash coupon (you would use this on the one you are “buying)
      -$3.99 Gillette body wash BOGO free coupon

      So, you’d spend $1.99 for two body washes. They are saying you can no longer do this.

    I don’t think extreme couponing is ruining it for couponers I think extreme couponERS are ruining it. Why be so greedy? Just get your free item and be done. I’m all about acing money but some of those people are going to have to go on hoarders if they keep it up!
