Frequently asked questions:

Do you really do multiple transactions at your stores?

In the past, I usually had $20-30 ECB on hand, so I didn’t have to break up my transactions as much as I did when I first started, but now that I am starting over, yes, I am doing multiple transactions. If you are doing multiple transactions, I recommend that you let the cashier know up front that is what you are planning to do. If there are several people in line, let them go in between your transactions. This gives you time to clip your ECBs and get prepared for your next transaction.

My store was out of all the freebie items first thing this morning. Can I get a raincheck?

This all depends on your store. I have contacted corporate about this before because some stores in my area give rainchecks and others won’t. According to corporate, this is up to the individual stores.

I bought the wrong item or I bought the RIGHT item and my ECB didn’t print. What can I do?

If you bought the right item, show the store clerk your ad and your receipt. They should be able to manually print your ECB at the store. If they don’t know how, you can call customer service and they can add one to your account that will print within 48 hours (you have to wait 48 hours from your purchase time to do this so they can “see” your transaction in their computer).

If you bought the wrong item and didn’t receive ECBs, you can do a return and purchase the correct item. If you paid using ECBs, they will have to give you money on a gift card.

Welcome to the Ultimate Blog Party 2010!

Ultimate Blog Party 2010

Last year, when my blog was only about 6 months old, I read about the “Ultimate Blog Party” (sponsored by 5minutesformom.com) and decided to join the fun…..and fun it was!

Thanks for stopping by my blog!  Here’s a little bit about me and what you’ll find on my blog:

Who am I?

I’m a wife, mom, educator, and “extreme couponer” among other things.  My husband and I have been married for almost 8 years now (we’ll hit that “milestone” in June) and we have a beautiful daughter who will be 6 next month and a super cute son who will be 3 tomorrow.  I have worked in education for 11 years now and I love it because it gives me a chance to make a difference in the life of children.  Around the time my daughter was born, I quickly realized that having a baby really does change everything and one of the big changes was the expense!  I started reading message boards and using coupons here and there to save money.  At that time, I thought I was doing pretty good.  Somewhere along the way, I discovered “extreme couponing” and now I love to see how much bang I can get for my buck.  I also learned to play the “drug store game” (shopping at CVS and Walgreens) and so now I get most of my health and beauty items for free or close to free.  Our family grocery budget is $40 per week and we’ve been living on that since January 1, 2009.  If you read my Menu Planning Monday posts, you’ll see that we’re not starving and we’re actually eating some really yummy things.

About my blog

I started my blog about 18 months ago as a way to share my deals with my friends and family.  It has grown along the way and I enjoy being able to help others learn to save money!  Here are the weekly posts you’ll find on my blog:

Scenario Sunday ~ Scenarios for your favorite stores like CVS, Walgreens, and Target (I also add match-ups for Publix and Kroger on Wednesdays when those ads come out)

Menu Planning Monday ~ My weekly menu plans including recipes and Weight Watchers points

Tip of the Day Tuesday ~ Tips about couponing and other money saving tips and ideas

Website of the Week Wednesday ~ This is a new feature.  I’ll be highlighting a new money-saving website every week!

Thrifty Thursday ~ This is one of my favorite weekly posts.  I share “thrifty” ideas and I have a link-up for other bloggers to share their thrifty tips.  I have gotten some great ideas from other people’s posts!

Freebie Friday ~ Links to great freebies plus free weekend fun for your family!

Savings Saturday ~ Sometimes I post scenarios on Saturdays and I also try to post pictures of my $40 weekly grocery trips

I’m also a big fan of the Dave Ramsey plan.  My husband and I took the Financial Peace University class a year ago and it has changed our lives.  Sometimes I share our experiences with that program.  My goal this year is to have a 100% cash Christmas and so I’ll be sharing my tips and progress along the way if you want to join me!

If you’re new to couponing and not really convinced yet that it really can make a difference, you might want to check out my “What I’m Willing to Pay for Things” post!

Thrifty Thursday: Three ways to get free movie tickets!

Being on a budget means we don’t go to the movies very often.  Pretty much the only way we go to the movies is if we have free tickets.  The only time we really take my kids to the movies is during the summer when theaters offer the “movie camps” and the movies are only $1.  Summer is just around the corner and there are some great new movies coming out, so I’m excited about all of the “deals” right now where you can earn free movie tickets.

Here are a few ways that you can earn free movie tickets right now:

Kroger has a promotion right now where you can receive a free movie ticket (or 15 free music or ringtone downloads) for purchasing 10 participating items.  I did this deal for the first time yesterday.  I’ll be looking for other ways to “work this deal” throughout the week.

Here’s the breakdown of what I did yesterday:

Buy 5 Snuggle fabric softener sheets – $3.50/each
Buy 5 Uncle Ben’s 90 minute Ready Rice packets – $1.69/each (love these things!)

Use 5 $3/1 Snuggle fabric softener coupons (3-28 RP)
Use 5 $1/1 Uncle Ben’s rice coupons (2-21 RP)

Spent $5.95 OOP, earned a catalina with a code for a free movie ticket! (that’s less than I would have spent on the movie ticket alone and I got 10 other items we really needed…also, I’ve had several people ask if it’s “worth it” to buy multiples of coupons and this trip alone should show that it is!)

Hershey also has a promotion right now where you earn a free movie ticket when you submit 4 UPCs from 10 oz or larger packages of Hershey’s Kisses, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup miniatures, Hershey’s Miniatures, or York Peppermint patties.  You can submit for the free tickets more than one time per household, but you must submit your UPCs in separate envelopes.

DISCLAIMER:  Hershey’s has changed the sizing on their bags of candy, so the “smaller” bags are now typically 8.5 ounces, so you will have to buy the “bigger” bags which are 18+ ounces from what I have seen in my stores and usually quite a bit more expensive.  This is a great time to look for clearanced Easter candy, though!

Toy Story ~ If you took advantage of the “deals” recently on Toy Story 1 and Toy Story 2, don’t forget to enter your codes from inside the boxes to get the link to print your free movie tickets to see it when it comes out in June!
