Walgreens scenarios for the week of 9/27

I don’t shop at Walgreens often these days, but there are some deals that were too good to pass up this week. They were so good that I had to go to a 24 hour store so that I could get started at midnight. Check out this post to see what I got and how much I saved!

There are coupons (such as the $2 Theraflu and $2 Robitussin) that I posted about previously which are no longer available to print. Most of these scenarios assume that you don’t have these coupons since they are no longer available. If you follow these scenarios, you spend a total of $3.49 OOP.

Here are some scenarios for beginners or those starting out with no RR: (if you are new to shopping at Walgreens, you may want to read the “helpful hints” below first)

**If you have the Walgreens Healthy Savings coupon book and the $2 Theraflu IPs (I posted the link for these a week or so ago, but it is no longer available for print), buy 2 Theraflu, use your Walgreens $2 Theraflu coupon (it will automatically take $4 off if you are buying 2) and your 2 manufacturer’s Theraflu coupons and pay $0 OOP and get a $4 RR to start you off**

If you don’t have the Theraflu coupons, here is a starting point:

Transaction #1:
Buy 1 Halls Refresh Sugar Free cough drops (20 ct) – $1

Use $.75 coupon from 9-27 SS insert

Spend .25 OOP, get a $1 RR

Transaction #2:
Buy 1 Robitussin To Go 2 pk – $2.49

Use the $2 IP if you printed it (I posted this a week or so ago, but it is no longer available for print)

Spend .49 OOP, get a $2.50 RR

**If you don’t have the $2 IP, use the $1 Halls RR and spend $1.49 OOP and get a $2.50 RR

Transaction #3:
Buy 1 Emergen-C booster – $3.49
Buy 1 “filler” (I bought the Hunts tomato sauce which is .39 with the in ad coupon)

Use $2.50 Robitussin RR
Use $1 Halls RR

Spend .38 OOP, get a $3.50 RR

Transaction #4:
Buy 1 Gillette Fusion razor – $8.99
Buy 1 “filler” item (I bought the Hunt’s tomato sauce for .39 with the in ad coupon)
Use $4/1 Fusion coupon from 9-27 PG insert

Use $3.50 Emergen-C RR

Spend $1.88 OOP, get a $6 RR

Transaction #5:
Buy 1 Vaseline Sheer Infusion lotion – $6.99
Buy 1 Halls Refresh Sugar Free cough drops – $1

Use $1.50/1 Vaseline coupon
Use $6 Gillette RR

Spend $.49 OOP, get a $7 RR (for the Vaseline) and a $1 RR for the Halls

Transaction #6:
Buy 1 Herbal Essence shampoo, conditioner, or styler – $2.99
Buy 1 Dentek flosser – $2 (make sure you are buying the correct one – check the ad for details!)
Buy 1 Chapstick – $2.99
Buy 1 “filler” (I used Hunt’s tomato sauce – $.39 w/ in ad coupon)

Use $1 HE manufacturer’s coupon (8-23 RP)
Use $7 Vaseline RR

Spend $.37 OOP, get a $2 HE RR, $2 Dentek RR, $3 Chapstick RR

Transaction #7:
Buy Oral B 1-2-3 Advantage toothbrush – $3

Use $3 Chapstick RR

Spend $0 OOP, get a $3 RR

**You can roll the Advantage and Chapstick RR back and forth or roll them into the Emergen-C and pay .49 OOP.

Transaction #7:
Buy 1 Dentek flossers

Use $2 PG RR from HE (MAKE SURE IT SAYS “courtesy of PG” at the bottom – if you use the $2 RR from the Dentek another RR will not print)

Spend $0 OOP, get a $2 RR

(Note: Since the Dentek is $2 and the Herbal Essence products are $2 after the $1 off coupon, this is a great way to “roll” the RR back and forth)

Some helpful tips:
*At Walgreens, you cannot do a promotion more than once in a transaction and earn Register Rewards. So, if you buy more than 1 Halls cough drops this week, you will not earn more than 1 RR. You will only get $1.

*You also cannot use the Register Rewards earned from a promotion on the same promotion and earn Register Rewards again. For example, if you buy Halls cough drops, get a $1 RR and use it to buy another Halls cough drops, another RR will not print.

*Typically, you cannot use the Register Rewards earned from a promotion with the same manufacturer and earn Register Rewards again. For example, Herbal Essence products, Gillette razors, and Oral B toothbrushes are all manufactured by Procter and Gamble. If you use Register Rewards earned from Herbal Essence products to buy an Oral B toothbrush, your RR will not print.

Here is information on the manufacturers for this week’s RR (thanks HCW!):
Vaseline = Unilever
Theraflu = Novartis
Emergen C = Alacer
Oral B = P & G
Herbal Essence = P & G
Chapstick = Wyeth
Fusion Razor = P & G
Triaminic = Novartis
Robitussin = Wyeth
Vicks = P & G
Dentek=Dentek

*Register Rewards are considered to be “manufacturer’s coupons” and you can only use one manufacturer’s coupon per item. You will have to add “filler” items. The in ad coupons often have good, inexpensive filler items. (this week, my favorite fillers were the .50 chicken broth, .39 tomato sauce, and .33 Halloween sticker/activity books)

*If you are buying items that would result in a “free” item or “overage” when combining a store coupon and a manufacturer’s coupon, give the manufacturer’s coupon FIRST, and the store coupons LAST to avoid beeping/issues at the register! Make sure that you are purchasing enough items in your total transaction to “cover” the overage. You will not get cash back and you will have to add items to cover the overage or they will not take the coupon.

*If your Register Reward doesn’t print for some reason and you have fulfilled all of the obligations for the “deal” (including not using RR from the same parent company to pay) DO NOT let them tell you it is because you used coupons! Chances are they didn’t print because the catalina machine is not working. You have two choices: you can return your items and try again or you can contact the catalina company by doing the following:
*The store will give you a form to fill out and mail in to catalina
*Call 1-888-8coupon, option 3
*Use the online form to contact them: Contact Catalina Marketing (when I have tried contacting them this way, my results have not been very good….your best bet is to call)

Savings Saturday: Target run and late night CVS/Walgreens run

Before my son’s swim lessons yesterday, we stopped off at Target and did four separate transactions. My daughter is 5 and learning about money, so she loves using her coupons and money to help “pay” for things.

Here’s what we got: 8 jars of Ragu (used .75/2 Target IP and $1/2 manufacturer’s coupon), 2 bags of Chef Michael’s dog food (used $2.50 IP and $1.50/1 Target IP), Bounty Basic (used .25/1 manufacturer’s coupon), 8 cheese sticks, 1 Bausch&Lomb ReNu contact solution (used $2.50/1 coupon from a box), 2 bags of egg noodles, 1 box of lasagne noodles, and one box of macaroni noodles (used FREE pasta WYB 2 Ragu coupons). Total OOP was $5.16.

(We also bought the Hungry Hungry Hippos game/Pepsi/Doritos and the Cranium Counting Ducks preschool game, but the games aren’t pictured because I put them away for Christmas and the Doritos and Pepsi aren’t pictured because my husband got his hands on them right away!)

I decided to make a late night/early morning CVS and Walgreens run. I’m fortunate to have two CVS stores and two Walgreens stores within about 5-10 minutes of my house that are open 24 hours.

I started out at CVS and bought the 4 Tide, 1 Dawn, and 1 Vaseline lotion. I paid $0 OOP (used a gift card from filling a prescription, a $1.50 Vaseline coupon, 4 $1 Tide coupons, a $1 Dawn coupon, a $5/25 CVS coupon, and $16 in ECBs to pay) and earned a $10 and $6 ECB.

Then, I moved to Walgreens. I honestly do not know how many transactions I did at each store, but I did a total of 23 transactions between the two, spent $5.21 out of pocket (I haven’t shopped at Walgreens in a LONG time and had no RR to start with), saved $130.65 and have $16 in RR left to spend. I will probably do the Herbal Essence deal a few more times this week and I’d like to get more toothbrushes when the RR start printing.
