Thanksgiving Craft: Pinecone Turkey

This is the perfect craft for those rainy days when your kids are bored and need something to do.  It has been rainy here for a few days now and my kids are stir crazy because they can’t play outside.  They have been begging for “something special” to do.  This pinecone turkey is so great because I already have all the supplies I need to make it.  Yay for not having to make an extra trip to the store in the rain!  Even better, I can use the finished product as placecards for Thanksgiving dinner.  I love when I can kill two birds with one stone.  Thanks to Amazing Moms for the great idea.

Here is what you need to make these Pinecone Turkeys:

  • yellow card stock or construction paper
  • brown card stock or construction paper
  • glue
  • scissors
  • wiggly eyes

Thanksgiving Craft: Glass Block Turkey

I love ice block crafts.  I have made Christmas ones and a few for every day display, but I never thought of doing one for Thanksgiving.  As I packed-up the Halloween decor today, I realized I basically have no Thanksgiving decorations.  This glass block turkey will be perfect for my mantel.

Back when I first started making glass block displays, they didn’t sell the blocks in craft stores.  You had to buy them at a home improvement store and drill a hole in the bottom yourself.  Thank goodness for craft stores!  They have made my life exponentially easier.

Here is what you need to make this Glass Block Turkey:

  • Small glass block, 5.5 inch x 5.5 inch
  • Brown glass enamel paint
  • Black acrylic paint
  • Patterned scrapbook paper in coordinating fall colors
  • Orange and red paper, or orange and red acrylic paints
  • wooden craft sticks (popsicle sticks)
  • White glue, such as Elmer’s
  • Heat resistant glue, such as a two part epoxy
  • decoupage medium, such as Mod Podge
  • 2 googly eyes
  • scissors
  • paint brush
  • A string of orange Halloween lights (50 light strand works well)

Halloween Craft: Countdown to Halloween!

For weeks now, my five year old has been asking if it is Halloween Day yet.  She is just so excited!  So, every day I have to pull out the calendar and count the days until Halloween with her.  She is going to love this countdown printable.  Tonight, I am going to let her help make it and then she can put it in her room.  I love that there are simple craft/activity suggestions that go with each day.

The best part about this craft is how simple it is.  It only requires 4 things!

Here is what you will need to make this countdown:

-2 sheets of white paper or cardstock

-color printer

-glue

-craft knife

Halloween Craft: Spooky Door Wreath

I love the simplicity of this wreath I found over at eighteen25!  I like that the burlap is just one color all the way around. Sometimes when you use a bunch of different colors the wreath gets a little too busy.   Most of all, I love that someone like me, who is sometimes challenged when it comes to crafting, could totally make this wreath and it would come out looking just as good as it does in the picture.  That is my kind of craft!

Here is what you need to make this Halloween Door Wreath:

  • 1 yard of black burlap cut into 1″x16″ strips {i used a rotary cutter, but if you want to prevent most of the loose strands on your wreath, you could use this burlap cutting technique.}
  • 14″ foam wreath ring
  • black paint {i used craft paint, but spray paint would work, too}
  • your SPOoKIEST findings to adorn this fab wreath
