Frequently asked questions:

Do you really do multiple transactions at your stores?

In the past, I usually had $20-30 ECB on hand, so I didn’t have to break up my transactions as much as I did when I first started, but now that I am starting over, yes, I am doing multiple transactions. If you are doing multiple transactions, I recommend that you let the cashier know up front that is what you are planning to do. If there are several people in line, let them go in between your transactions. This gives you time to clip your ECBs and get prepared for your next transaction.

My store was out of all the freebie items first thing this morning. Can I get a raincheck?

This all depends on your store. I have contacted corporate about this before because some stores in my area give rainchecks and others won’t. According to corporate, this is up to the individual stores.

I bought the wrong item or I bought the RIGHT item and my ECB didn’t print. What can I do?

If you bought the right item, show the store clerk your ad and your receipt. They should be able to manually print your ECB at the store. If they don’t know how, you can call customer service and they can add one to your account that will print within 48 hours (you have to wait 48 hours from your purchase time to do this so they can “see” your transaction in their computer).

If you bought the wrong item and didn’t receive ECBs, you can do a return and purchase the correct item. If you paid using ECBs, they will have to give you money on a gift card.

Kroger’s General Mills & Quaker Four Day Sale!

I am not sure if this sale is taking place at all Kroger stores or only Kroger stores in the Texas/Louisiana market, but you can get some pretty great deals on cereal through 8/3/10.  I’m relieved because my cereal stockpile was getting low and I had been waiting for a good “stock up” sale.  The sale started yesterday and runs through Tuesday, 8/3.  Select General Mills and Quaker items are priced at 50% off their “regular” retail price.  The sale prices by themselves aren’t that great, but there are some great coupons you can match up with sale prices. (Don’t forget to check out my Kroger weekly deals post for more great deals!)

**Keep in mind that the coupons.com printables all re-set last night, so even if you have printed some of these coupons before, you should be able to print them again!

FAQS:

Do you do multiple transactions at one store on one visit?
It just depends. Several stores in my area have gone to a “one RR per item per day” rule, which means I can’t do more than one transaction where I’m earning RR for the same product at the same store. Some of the stores in my area also will not let you use the RR you earn from one transaction on another transaction in that same visit.  I’m fortunate to have several stores within a few minutes of my house, so I usually try to break up transactions at different stores and on different days to stay in the good graces of my stores.

What is Walgreens policy on using BOGO free coupons with a BOGO free offer, adjusting down coupons, etc.?
When I contacted customer service recently, I was surprised to learn that Walgreens does not have a corporate coupon policy, which means that store managers basically can call the shots on “policy” and that there is going to be A LOT of variance among stores.  Supposedly, they are working on putting a corporate policy together.

Some helpful tips:
*At Walgreens, you can use ONE manufacturer’s coupon and ONE store coupon per item (always give the store coupon last to avoid problems)

*At Walgreens, you cannot do a promotion more than once in a transaction and earn Register Rewards. (for example, if you buy 2 crayons, you will only earn a RR for one)

*You also typically cannot use the Register Rewards earned from a promotion on the same promotion and earn Register Rewards again. For example, if you buy the crayons and use the RR from that to buy more, the RR will not print

*Register Rewards are considered to be “manufacturer’s coupons” and you can only use one manufacturer’s coupon per item. You will have to add “filler” items if you are using a manufacturer’s coupon and a RR. The in ad coupons often have good, inexpensive filler items. (check out the weekly match-ups for ideas)

*If you are using more than one RR in a transaction, always give the RR with the highest value FIRST. Sometimes strange things happen with coupons and taxes and even if you think you have planned out your scenario very well, you will end up with more overage than you planned for.

*If you are buying items that would result in a “free” item or “overage” when combining a store coupon and a manufacturer’s coupon, give the manufacturer’s coupon FIRST, and the store coupons LAST to avoid beeping/issues at the register! Make sure that you are purchasing enough items in your total transaction to “cover” the overage. You will not get cash back and you will have to add items to cover the overage or they will not take the coupon.

*If your Register Reward doesn’t print for some reason and you have fulfilled all of the obligations for the “deal” (including not using RR from the same parent company to pay) DO NOT let them tell you it is because you used coupons! Chances are they didn’t print because the catalina machine is not working. You have two choices: you can return your items and try again or you can contact the catalina company by doing the following:
*The store will give you a form to fill out and mail in to catalina
*Call 1-877-210-1917, option 1

Get your Sunday insert coupons now!

There will be FOUR inserts this weekend, so you will definitely want to get a paper! I’m looking to rebuild some of my stockpile items (things like peanut butter, juice, and pasta sauces) by combining these coupons with sale prices.

If you’re looking to get multiple coupons to build your stockpile, I recommend the following coupon clipping services:  My Coupon Hunter or Collectable Coupons. You can get full inserts from Whole Coupon Inserts ($.50 or less per insert and she ships from Florida) or Mad Coupons ($10 for 10 copies of the weekly inserts and she ships from Washington).  To find out more about why I use coupon clipping services, check out my post on Using a Coupon Clipping Service to Build Your Stockpile.

Here are some of the “hot” coupons I see so far: (there are lots of coupons, these are just the “highlights” and ones that I will be stocking up on)

PROCTER & GAMBLE:

$1/1 Crest toothpaste – I recently realized that we were down to our LAST tube of toothpaste (one of the downfalls of having a stockpile is that you get used to having everything “on hand” and if you don’t keep track of it, all of the sudden you’ll realize you’re out of something! Fortunately, there always seems to be free or close to free toothpaste at CVS and Walgreens)

$1/1 Downy liquid fabric softener or sheets

$2/1 Gillette deodorant or body wash – you can get these for free at Kroger during the P&G sale with this coupon!

$4/1 Gillette Fusion ProGlide manual or Power razor

Buy any Herbal Essence or Aussie Product, get a free styler

$1/1 Oral B stages Zooth, Crest Kids manual, or Crest power toothbrush – if you need to restock your supply of kid toothbrushes, there should be some good sales this month

Buy Pampers diapers, get free wipes (72 ct)

$1/1 Tide detergent

RED PLUM #1:

$1/2 Kellogg’s Pop Tarts Target store coupon – pair this with the $1/2 Pop Tarts manufacturer’s coupon and a good sale (they usually have a buy 5, get a $5 gift card sale this time of year) you should be able to get a great deal on Pop Tarts!

$.60/2 Ragu Pasta Sauce – This is the time of year to stock up on pasta sauce! If you’re wanting to build your stockpile, make sure you snag some of these coupons!

$.60/1 Skippy peanut butter – there are usually great back to school sales on peanut butter – I stock up for the whole year every year at this time of year!

RED PLUM #2:
