Target deals for the week of 2/21

The ad this week doesn’t have a whole lot to offer (in my opinion).  Thankfully, there are some gift card deals and other deals that are carrying over to this week!  The “good” news is that there are a lot of HOT new Kraft printable coupons on Target.com (go to their website and then scroll down to the bottom where it says “Grocery coupons”)  These are STORE coupons so that means they can be combined with manufacturer’s coupons!

NEW AT TARGET: Electronics trade-in ~ Trade in your new or used iPod or iPhone for a Target gift card.

Get Text Alerts from Target: receive coupons, deals, and weekly ad reminders on your mobile phone – use a barcode that can be scanned at check-out for multiple one time only coupon deals throughout the month.  The text alerts for mobile coupons appear to be released on Sundays.  The latest round includes the following:

$.75/1 Crest toothpate or Oral B Manual toothbrush

$3/1 Glade Fragrance Collection (excludes 2 oz)
$1/1 Kraft cheese, chunk, or shred
$.75/1 M&Ms Premiums
$1/1 Planters product (5 oz or larger0

Target now offers price matching. You can check out their policy here.

At Target, you can use one Target coupon and one manufacturer’s coupon per item. The printable Target coupons now state “one per transaction” meaning you can only use one “like” coupon per transaction. The Target coupons from the inserts do not have this wording and neither do the Target toy coupons. You can read/print their coupon policy here.

They are also offering a .05 credit when you bring in your own reusable shopping bag!

Here is the “reported” markdown schedule (YMMV):
Regular Markdown Schedule in other Departments
Monday – Electronics, Kids Clothing and Stationary (Cards, GiftWrap, etc.)
Tuesday – Domestics, Women’s Clothing, Pets and Market (food items)
Wednesday – Men’s Clothing, Toys, Health and Beauty, Lawn & Garden items
Thursday – House Wares, Lingerie, Shoes, Sporting Goods, Movies, Music, Books, Decor and Luggage

There are HOT new Kraft printables on Target.com (to print, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on “Grocery Coupons”).  These are STORE coupons so they can be combined with manufacturer’s coupons!  Thanks to Totally Target for the heads up and match-ups!

Some helpful tips:
*At Walgreens, you can use ONE manufacturer’s coupon and ONE store coupon per item

*At Walgreens, you cannot do a promotion more than once in a transaction and earn Register Rewards. (for example, you cannot buy 2 Gillette razors in one transaction because you will only earn one RR)

*You also typically cannot use the Register Rewards earned from a promotion on the same promotion and earn Register Rewards again. For example, if you buy the Goody hair bands and use the RR from that to buy another one, your RR will not print.

*Register Rewards are considered to be “manufacturer’s coupons” and you can only use one manufacturer’s coupon per item. You will have to add “filler” items. The in ad coupons often have good, inexpensive filler items. (there are LOTS of great filler items this week – check out the weekly match-ups for ideas)

*If you are using more than one RR in a transaction, always give the RR with the highest value FIRST. Sometimes strange things happen with coupons and taxes and even if you think you have planned out your scenario very well, you will end up with more overage than you planned for.

*If you are buying items that would result in a “free” item or “overage” when combining a store coupon and a manufacturer’s coupon, give the manufacturer’s coupon FIRST, and the store coupons LAST to avoid beeping/issues at the register! Make sure that you are purchasing enough items in your total transaction to “cover” the overage. You will not get cash back and you will have to add items to cover the overage or they will not take the coupon.

*If your Register Reward doesn’t print for some reason and you have fulfilled all of the obligations for the “deal” (including not using RR from the same parent company to pay) DO NOT let them tell you it is because you used coupons! Chances are they didn’t print because the catalina machine is not working. You have two choices: you can return your items and try again or you can contact the catalina company by doing the following:
*The store will give you a form to fill out and mail in to catalina
*Call 1-888-8coupon, option 3
*Use the online form to contact them: Contact Catalina Marketing (when I have tried contacting them this way, my results have not been very good….your best bet is to call)

Frequently asked questions:

Do you really do multiple transactions at your stores?

In the past, I usually had $20-30 ECB on hand, so I didn’t have to break up my transactions as much as I did when I first started, but now that I am starting over, yes, I am doing multiple transactions. If you are doing multiple transactions, I recommend that you let the cashier know up front that is what you are planning to do. If there are several people in line, let them go in between your transactions. This gives you time to clip your ECBs and get prepared for your next transaction.

My store was out of all the freebie items first thing this morning. Can I get a raincheck?

This all depends on your store. I have contacted corporate about this before because some stores in my area give rainchecks and others won’t. According to corporate, this is up to the individual stores.

I bought the wrong item or I bought the RIGHT item and my ECB didn’t print. What can I do?

If you bought the right item, show the store clerk your ad and your receipt. They should be able to manually print your ECB at the store. If they don’t know how, you can call customer service and they can add one to your account that will print within 48 hours (you have to wait 48 hours from your purchase time to do this so they can “see” your transaction in their computer).

If you bought the wrong item and didn’t receive ECBs, you can do a return and purchase the correct item. If you paid using ECBs, they will have to give you money on a gift card.

Here are a few “Frequently Asked Questions” I get about stocking up on coupons:

How do you know if an item is going to go on sale? I don’t want to stock up on coupons and then have them go to waste.

In some cases (CVS and Walgreens), I can look at ad scans for upcoming weeks online and get a “heads up” about what will be on sale in upcoming weeks. In other cases, I have to go off of my experiences with sales cycles. There’s not a 100% chance that these items will go on sale, but typically if coupons are coming out in the inserts, they will match up with some sale in upcoming weeks.

Is it worth it to “buy” coupons when your goal is saving money? It seems kind of counterproductive.

If you are looking to stockpile items on a budget, the best way to do this is to pair coupons with sale prices and in order to really stockpile items, you are going to need multiple coupons. I know that some people buy multiple newspapers, but that doesn’t really “work” for me because then I have the extra work of coupon up with all of that paper. Using a coupon clipping service or eBay to get coupons is more time and cost effective for me because then I’m only getting coupons for the things that I want and need and they’re already clipped!

The savings far outweigh what I spend.

For example, let’s say I buy 10 .50/1 Bird’s Eye Steamfresh veggie coupons at $.09 each from My Coupon Hunter to pair with a 10/$10 sale at my grocery store (which doubles coupons). Using the coupons, I can get 10 bags of vegetables (which are normally $1.69 at my stores) for $.90 (the cost of my coupons). I have just saved $16.
