DIY Halloween Costumes: Super Heroes and a Pink Owl

Are you and your kids still trying to figure what to dress them as for Halloween?  Here is a solution that would make just about any young boy happy… Superheroes!  What little boy doesn’t want to be a superhero?  This great tutorial from Martha Stewart makes it easy to customize these costumes so your child can be any superhero he wants to be.  There are tutorials for capes, shirts, belts, masks, and cuffs.  Even my little girls would think this was pretty cool.  I’m pretty sure that after seeing this,  one of my kiddos will be begging to be Storm from the X-Men.

Here’s what you need to make the cape and shirt for this costume:

  • Alphabet Templates
  • Lightning Bolt Template
  • Planet Template
  • Star Template
  • Felt or sparkly paper, holographic metallic-effect film, 8 1/2 inches by 11 inches, in Silver-Shine
  • Small sharp scissors
  • 36-by-36-inch piece of polyester satin (or T-shirt)
  • 24 inches of 1/2-inch chromspun grosgrain ribbon, 5/8 inch, in Neon Orange and Gray
  • Fabric glue, such as Magna-Tac
  • Safety pin
