Some helpful tips:
*At Walgreens, you can use ONE manufacturer’s coupon and ONE store coupon per item

*At Walgreens, you cannot do a promotion more than once in a transaction and earn Register Rewards. (for example, if you buy 2 Softsoap body washes, you will only earn RR for one)

*You also typically cannot use the Register Rewards earned from a promotion on the same promotion and earn Register Rewards again. For example, if you buy the Softsoap and use the RR from that to buy another one, your RR will not print.

*Register Rewards are considered to be “manufacturer’s coupons” and you can only use one manufacturer’s coupon per item. You will have to add “filler” items. The in ad coupons often have good, inexpensive filler items. (there are LOTS of great filler items this week – check out the weekly match-ups for ideas)

*If you are using more than one RR in a transaction, always give the RR with the highest value FIRST. Sometimes strange things happen with coupons and taxes and even if you think you have planned out your scenario very well, you will end up with more overage than you planned for.

*If you are buying items that would result in a “free” item or “overage” when combining a store coupon and a manufacturer’s coupon, give the manufacturer’s coupon FIRST, and the store coupons LAST to avoid beeping/issues at the register! Make sure that you are purchasing enough items in your total transaction to “cover” the overage. You will not get cash back and you will have to add items to cover the overage or they will not take the coupon.

*If your Register Reward doesn’t print for some reason and you have fulfilled all of the obligations for the “deal” (including not using RR from the same parent company to pay) DO NOT let them tell you it is because you used coupons! Chances are they didn’t print because the catalina machine is not working. You have two choices: you can return your items and try again or you can contact the catalina company by doing the following:
*The store will give you a form to fill out and mail in to catalina
*Call 1-888-8coupon, option 3
*Use the online form to contact them: Contact Catalina Marketing (when I have tried contacting them this way, my results have not been very good….your best bet is to call)

Target deals for the week of 5/2

Keep in mind that pricing may vary by area. Always check your local ad to confirm that they have the “weekly deals.”

Electronics trade-in ~ Trade in your new or used iPod or iPhone for a Target gift card.

Get Text Alerts from Target: receive coupons, deals, and weekly ad reminders on your mobile phone – use a barcode that can be scanned at check-out for multiple one time only coupon deals throughout the month.  The text alerts for mobile coupons appear to be released on Sundays and appear to be valid for one week only (when the new round is released on Sundays, the old round disappears).

Target now offers price matching. You can check out their policy here.

At Target, you can use one Target coupon and one manufacturer’s coupon per item. The printable Target coupons now state “one per transaction” meaning you can only use one “like” coupon per transaction. The Target coupons from the inserts do not have this wording and neither do the Target toy coupons. You can read/print their coupon policy here.

They are also offering a .05 credit when you bring in your own reusable shopping bag!

Thrifty Thursday: Saving money on movie tickets this summer

Summer is just around the corner and one of the things my kids enjoy doing during the summer is going to the movies.  Here are a few ways we’re planning on saving on movie tickets this summer:

Take advantage of summer movie promotions ~ Many theaters offer some sort of “summer movie camp” which includes free or heavily discounted movie tickets.  These are not “first run” movies, but it still gives your kids the opportunity to have a “theater” experience.  It’s even more fun if you get together with a group of friends.  Make sure you arrive early if you are attending one of these promotional showings!

Here are some theaters that already have their summer movie information posted:

AMC Summer Movie Camp – Their schedule isn’t posted yet, but you can keep checking back for more information.

Cinemark Summer Movie Clubhouse – Tickets are $1 per showing for adults and children.  You can buy a “series punch card” for only $5 which allows you admission to all 10 shows, so that’s only $.50 per show!  There are limited supplies of the punch cards and they are already on sale at theater box offices.

Regal Cinemas Free Family Film Festival – See a free movie every Tuesday or Wednesday at 10 a.m. beginning the first week in June.  The schedule has been posted already!

Join Theater Rewards programs ~ Check with your theater to see if they offer a rewards program.  AMC Theaters offer the “Movie Watchers” Reward program where you earn points for purchasing movie tickets.  (What I love is that the $1 movie tickets you buy during the summer qualify for the same number of points as full price tickets!  Plus, last summer, most of the “summer movie” tickets at our theater were on Wednesdays and so we would get a coupon for free popcorn just from using our Movie Watchers reward card!)

Take advantage of free movie ticket promotions ~ Keep your eyes open for free movie ticket promotions.  Right now you can earn free Fandango movie tickets just for buying select Hershey products!  If you bought Toy Story 1 or Toy Story 2 recently, there are also codes inside the boxes for a free ticket to see Toy Story 3!

Go to a matinee ~ At most theaters, the first showing of the day is heavily discounted.

Take advantage of student discounts ~ Some theaters offer discounts for students.  You usually have to show your student ID.  Check with your theater to see if they offer this type of a promotion.

Check out your Entertainment Book ~ If you have purchased an Entertainment book, check it out.  Mine has several coupons for discounted AMC tickets ($7 each rather than the $9.50 they are charging now).

The Taste of Home $5 cookbooks are back!

If you missed out on the last Taste of Home $5 cookbook sale, it’s BACK!  I love Taste of Home recipes, and have yet to have a bad experience with one.  They currently have 12 cookbooks priced at $5!

You get free shipping when you spend $20 or more (no code needed) or shipping for $1 when you use the code 1131 at check-out! (Thanks Hip2save!)

You will also get 10% cash back when you shop through Shop at Home (and you will get a $5 bonus if you are signing up for the first time..it’s like getting your cookbook for $1 after shipping!)

Here’s how this works:

1.  Log in to your Shop at Home account (or sign up if you don’t have one currently) and search for “Taste of Home.”

2.  Click on “Cookbooks” on the left and then choose “show all.”  Sort by price “low to high.”  (The $5 cookbooks will appear first when you do this)

3.  Add two or more cookbooks to your cart and click on “Shopping Cart” (in the upper right hand corner).  At check-out, enter the code 1131.  This will give you $1 shipping!

These would make a great gift and Mother’s Day will be here before you know it!
