Get Huggies jumbo packs for $6 each through Diapers.com!

I recently became a fan of Diapers.com. The convenience of having diapers delivered to your home is great, and their shipping time is super fast! If you’re looking for a great deal on diapers and you haven’t shopped with them before, you can get Huggies jumbo packs for $6 each or Pampers jumbo packs for $7 each. (The prices may be even less if you use manufacturer’s coupons!)

I just received an e-mail yesterday from Diapers.com and they have lowered the prices of their jumbo packs of Pampers and Huggies to $9.99/each, which is lower than they sell at most retail stores in my area, so even if you have ordered from them before, with the free shipping, it’s still a great deal! (and you don’t have to pay tax)

Here’s how it works: (The steps are exactly the same for both Pampers and Huggies except that you would skip the last step for Pampers since they aren’t eligible for rebates through Caregivers)

1. Send in any manufacturer’s coupons you have. Diapers.com accepts manufacturer’s coupons. To find out how to submit your manufacturer’s coupons for credit, click here.

2. If you haven’t already, sign up for Ebates. If you are a new member, you will get a $5 bonus (after you make your first purchase) when you sign up here. Once you have signed up, search for Diapers.com, and click through the link on the site. You will get an additional 1% cash back for shopping through this link.

3. Choose 5 Huggies (or Pampers) jumbo packs (size 1-6) here. (click here if you are buying Pampers) Add them to your cart.

4. Proceed to check out. If you’re a new member, you’ll have to register.

5. Enter the coupon code MELISSASBA if you are a new customer to get $10 off your order of $49 or more. If you’ve ordered from diapers.com before, you can try to use the code RESOLUTION.

6. If you originally added $49 or more to your cart (before the code), your order should qualify for free shipping. Your total should be $49.95 at this point.

7. In the “promotional code” box in the bottom right hand corner, put a comma after MELISSASBA and then enter the code NEW5. An additional $5 should be deducted from your balance. You should be at $34.95 at this point. (Any coupons you have submitted should also appear as a credit on your account)

*Your diapers should arrive within two business days!

8. Submit your receipts to Caregivers Marketplace. You should get $3.75 back. (This step does not apply to Pampers)

If you use Ebates and purchased Huggies, your total out of pocket when all is said and done should be $30.85 for five jumbo packs.

Thrifty Thursday: Our first month on the "Dave Ramsey" plan

We are finishing up our first month on “the Dave Ramsey plan.” If you are not familiar with Dave Ramsey, he recommends using a “cash only” system. We actually started taking the Financial Peace University class at a local church about six weeks ago, but we went to a cash based system at the beginning of April.

At the beginning of the month, we put together a budget and funded envelopes for the following categories (I’m sharing our categories because some people have asked about it): restaurants, groceries, clothing, babysitter, miscellaneous/toiletries, gifts, pet care, entertainment, auto care/maintenance, medical co-pays/prescriptions, lawn care, “blow money” (money each of us gets to spend, no questions asked). All of our other bills were paid out of our checking account. We decided that I would continue to use the debit card for gas for convenience sake (it’s not like you can really impulse buy/overspend at the gas station unless you go inside). My husband gets reimbursed for gas and work-related expenses and this fluctuates from month to month. We weren’t sure how to handle that, so we went to Dave’s site and read up on it and he recommends creating an expense account where you deposit your monthly expense check. We actually had a checking account that we had opened when we were first married but don’t really use anymore, so he has been using that for his business-related expenses and it has worked out beautifully!

Last night, we were talking about our budget for May and going through all of our envelopes and we realized that we had $78 in cash left. This may not seem like that big of a deal to some, but for us it was huge. In his class, Dave Ramsey talks about how people tend to spend 12-18% more when they are using plastic, even if it is a debit card, and I guess he was right! We were a lot more conscientious about our spending when we were using cash.

We were also able to pay off 5 credit cards in full this month, which was a great feeling.

The best part is that there has been so much peace in our home!

I have read several Dave Ramsey books, but taking the class has made such a difference. We paid $99 for a 13 week class which also includes child care and my husband and I both agree that it was money that was well spent. You can also buy the “kit” and do it from home, but I think that doing it with a group of people makes a huge difference. To find out if there are classes in your area, click here. In case you’re wondering, I get nothing for “endorsing” this program, but I believe in it and I’m so grateful for all of the changes that it has brought into our home after just one month!

Tip of the day Tuesday: When bargain hunting trips don’t go as planned

When bargain hunting trips don’t work out, it can be frustrating and for a new couponer, enough to lead them to give up. From time to time, even experienced bargain hunters experience “glitches.”

Tonight I made what I thought would be a quick run to Randalls to do the Living Well promotion. Things took a little bit longer than expected when my $10 catalina didn’t print.

Here are some tips for dealing with bargain hunting “glitches”

Make sure you buy participating items

When grocery stores offer special promotions, there are typically special tags on participating items. Also read the fine print in the ad because sometimes only specific sizes, scents, flavors, etc. are part of the promotion. Buying one “wrong” item will throw everything off.

Don’t be afraid to visit customer service

If your deal doesn’t work out as planned, don’t be afraid to visit the customer service desk. Participating promotion items usually have a special marking on the receipt and they can usually easily figure out why your deal didn’t work out as planned. Sometimes it also might be something as simple as a catalina machine that is not working. If you bought an item that did not count toward a specific promotion, if you ask, they will usually let you return the item that did not work and exchange it for the appropriate item.

Stand your ground

Sometimes you will encounter customer service associates or even members of management who are not familiar with coupon policies and who are afraid of coupons. You may hear things like “Your coupon didn’t print because you paid with coupons” or “You have to pay X amount after coupons.” Be informed about store coupon policies and don’t be afraid to stand your ground. You can learn about that here.

Don’t let a bargain hunting trip gone wrong ruin your experience forever. Take a deep breath and move on!
